In this exhibition, many different aspects of future life will be shown through the imaginations of the world's leading designers and companies. The exhibition will present both concept designs and their materialized forms together with the process of realization so that the viewer can realize that the existing designs around us actually have their own futuristic quality in themselves. Moreover, every exhibition item will be shown in the context of everyday life to help the viewer visualize the future and the role of designs in the realization of it. The viewer's interactivity is one of the key points throughout the exhibition.

Design is being actively promoted throughout the world in the 21C, as people place more value on their emotional needs and cultural enrichment, and as countries recognize the value of design as an essential means of achieving national and economic well-being.

The Gwangju Design Biennale 2005 was created with the aim of capitalizing on the success of the Gwangju Biennale and coupling it with Gwangjus plan to nurture its design industry in the 21C. Art will serve as the foundation that will enable Gwangjus design industry and the city itself to advance to a new level.

At the opening ceremony of Gwangju Pre-Biennale 2004 (2004. 6.18~6.27), the Design City Gwangju manifesto was adopted to officially announce to the country and to the international community the launch of the Gwangju Design Biennale 2005.

The internationally established Gwangju Biennale and the newly launched Gwangju Design Biennale 2005 will reaffirm the status of Gwangju as a host city of prominent international biennales. The events will create great synergy by linking culture and industry, and will help to revitalize the local economy and attain Gwangjus vision of becoming the cultural capital of Korea and a cultural hub of Asia.
