Biography

Toru Hasegawa, with Mark Collins, is a founding partner of Proxy, a
multi-disciplinary design firm exploring architecture as an abstract
informational system. Proxy works on a diverse array of projects,
ranging between custom software, product design and complex building
structures.The work of Proxy has been exhibited in New York, Beijing,
Madrid, and Barcelona. Proxy has most recently participated in the
Acadia 2006 "Synthetic Landscapes: Digital Physical Synthetic"
Conference and was exhibited in the 2006 Beijing Architecture Biennial
“Emerging Talents, Emerging Technologies." Ongoing research includes
the Trusset Wall, exhibited recently in Lowe Library Columbia
University, and the Happy Family Lamp, a CNC-fabricated product for the
home.Toru is currently teaching two seminars at the Columbia GSAPP that
explore digital fabrication techniques and advanced algorithmic
methodologies withinarchitectur e. Toru Hasegawa received his B.Arch
from Hosei University in Tokyo, 2003; M.Arch. from Columbia University
in New York, 2006 which he graduated with Honors Awards for Excellence
in Design.
