Biography
Michael is a theatre and film theorist and playwright. He has taught theatre courses at the Shanghail Drama Institute and studied Peking Opera in China. He has written theatre reviews for the
New Yorker's "Goings on About Town," and was the recipient of a Jerome Fellowship for theatre journalism at
American Theatre magazine. He was the editor of the two-volume history
Memoria: Cuban Art of the 20th Century. His book
Performing Utopia: The Idealized Human Body in Russian Revolutionary FIlm and Theatre is forthcoming in 2005. Currently, he is an editor and writer at an interactive agency in New York.
