To design is to create, fashion, execute, or construct according to plan. This class focuses on the holistic nature of the design process, of having a "plan" from conception through execution, especially in regard to the display and relationship of visual information. By approaching projects from more complete and varied design perspectives, ideas and information can be better represented and expressed on any level, in any context. We will research how to visualize the possibilities of an idea, even before starting to develop it or expanding it into a project. We will explore information design, visual composition, relationship between visuals and text, and non-traditional ideas of communicating information. Typography, layout, and other forms of information visualization will be also be examined. Using communication tools, students will document their process by organizing their research about ideas, using digital media to make presentations and to experiment with prototypes. Students will create assignments related to the display and visualization of information; documentation of a survey, drawing schematic diagrams to illustrate concepts, creation of prototypes, making a poster, writing a proposal, and keeping an online project diary.
