This class is an intensive design workshop focusing on the challenges of deploying interactive digital media installations in public spaces in New York City. In this workshop, students apply traditional theory and practice of good urban design to design, evaluate and re-conceptualize interactive public installations. Student-designed installations are encouraged to draw upon one or more of three technology areas that offer new opportunities for enhancing urban public space: digital displays, wireless local area networks, and geographic information & positioning systems.
