H79.2412 Lecture 4 Credits
Instructor(s): Teitler
The course starts with a brief overview of traditional approaches to non-fictional representation. The overview provides a background for understanding a range of experimental approaches which we explore over the bulk of the semester. These experimental approaches develop in dialogue with their historical antecedents, and address a variety of ethical, formal and conceptual issues that are inherent in efforts to “represent the real.” Designed as a seminar, student participation is critical to the success of the class. In addition to viewing, reading and writing, students produce experimental documentary projects in teams or individually over the course of the semester. Students are expected to make time for viewing some work outside of class, in addition to completing reading and writing assignments.
